ٱتَّخَذُوٓا۟ أَحْبَارَهُمْ وَرُهْبَٰنَهُمْ أَرْبَابًا مِّن دُونِ ٱللَّهِ وَٱلْمَسِيحَ ٱبْنَ مَرْيَمَ وَمَآ أُمِرُوٓا۟ إِلَّا لِيَعْبُدُوٓا۟ إِلَٰهًا وَٰحِدًا لَّآ إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ سُبْحَٰنَهُۥ عَمَّا يُشْرِكُونَ
They took their scholars and their monks as lords besides God, and the Messiah son of Mary. The commentaries agree on what the taking was: they followed them in making lawful what God had forbidden and forbidding what He had made lawful. They were commanded to worship only one God. There is no god but He. Glory be to Him above what they set beside Him.
انہوں نے اپنے علماء اور اپنے راہبوں کو اللہ کے سوا رب بنا لیا، اور مسیح بن مریم کو بھی۔ تفسیر سب اس بات پر متفق ہیں کہ اس اختیار کرنے کا مطلب یہ تھا: انہوں نے ان کی پیروی میں وہ چیزیں حلال کر لیں جنہیں اللہ نے حرام کیا تھا اور وہ چیزیں حرام کر لیں جنہیں اللہ نے حلال کیا تھا۔ حالانکہ انہیں صرف ایک اللہ کی عبادت کا حکم دیا گیا تھا۔ اس کے سوا کوئی معبود نہیں۔ وہ اس شرک سے پاک اور بلند ہے جو یہ لوگ کرتے ہیں۔
