ثُمَّ رَدَدْنَٰهُ أَسْفَلَ سَٰفِلِينَ
Then We returned him to the lowest of the low. The commentaries read this line directly against the one before it: the same being made in the finest form is the one brought down to the bottom, and the sura sets the height and the fall side by side.
پھر ہم نے اسے ”اَسْفَلَ سَافِلِیْن“ کی طرف لوٹا دیا، یعنی اُس تکریم کے بعد ایسی حالت کی طرف جو پستی کی انتہا ہے۔ ”اَسْفَل“ اسمِ تفضیل ہے، یعنی توقع سے کہیں زیادہ گری ہوئی حالت۔ آگے آنے والا استثنا بتاتا ہے کہ اس حالت سے وہی بچتا ہے جو ایمان لائے اور عمل کرے — یعنی اصل مدار ایمان اور عمل پر ہے، محض خلقت پر نہیں۔
