Nine windows, cut at the seams the commentary tradition already uses, three running at a time. Costed from what sūrah 2 actually took. Three of 114 are done.
Every gate in the engine checks one reading at a time, so all of them pass while the muṣḥaf as a whole drifts. This is measured, not feared — sūrah 2 drifted inside a single window in a single sitting:
| Term | Renderings that appear in one sūrah |
|---|---|
| taqwā | “guard themselves” · “guard yourselves” · “mindful of God” |
| kufr | “those who refuse” · “cover over” · “deniers” · “disbelieve” |
| islām | “submit” · “submission” · “surrender” |
| qiṣāṣ | “fair retribution” · “retaliation” |
Some of that is grammar and is correct. The rest is one lexical choice made twice, differently, by the same writer on the same day. Across nine windows and 111 sūrahs it compounds.
The fix is a controlled vocabulary — 05-READINGS/GLOSSARY.md, written and seeded from sūrah 2. Every window reads it before its first reading and appends when it settles a new term. It also fixes the names that recur across the whole muṣḥaf — Mūsā, Ibrāhīm, ʿĪsā — which is where parallel windows diverge first and most visibly.
Balancing by hours alone would cut through the middle of al-Ḥawāmīm and separate al-Anfāl from al-Tawba. The tradition already divides the muṣḥaf — al-Sabʿ al-Ṭiwāl, al-Miʾūn, al-Mathānī, and the three classes of al-Mufaṣṣal — and it divides it where length, register and subject actually change. Cutting there costs a little balance and buys consistency, which is the thing at risk.
Three rules drove the boundaries: a recognised family is never split (40–46 all open Ḥā Mīm); sūrahs read as a pair stay together (al-Anfāl and al-Tawba, which no basmala divides); and a window holds one register where it can, so Madanī law does not sit beside Makkan eschatology in the same session.
| W | Sūrahs | Class | Āyāt | Est. | Register |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 3–7 | The rest of al-Sabʿ al-Ṭiwāl Āl ʿImrān, al-Nisāʾ, al-Māʾida, al-Anʿām, al-Aʿrāf — the long ones, finishing the class al-Baqarah opened | 867 | 8.0 h | Makkī 2 / Madanī 3 |
| 2 | 8–12 | The war pair, then the narratives al-Anfāl and al-Tawba are read as one (no basmala divides them); then Yūnus, Hūd, and Yūsuf, which is a single unbroken story | 547 | 5.3 h | Makkī 3 / Madanī 2 |
| 3 | 13–20 | The great Makkan narratives al-Raʿd to Ṭā Hā — Ibrāhīm, the Cave, Maryam, and the fullest telling of Mūsā | 776 | 7.6 h | Makkī 7 / Madanī 1 |
| 4 | 21–26 | The prophet cycles al-Anbiyāʾ to al-Shuʿarāʾ — the same prophets retold in sequence; keeping them together is what keeps the retellings consistent | 676 | 6.5 h | Makkī 4 / Madanī 2 |
| 5 | 27–35 | Late Makkan al-Naml to Fāṭir — sustained argument, the signs in creation | 546 | 5.8 h | Makkī 8 / Madanī 1 |
| 6 | 36–49 | al-Mathānī and al-Ḥawāmīm 40–46 all open Ḥā Mīm and are a recognised family; they must not be split across windows | 925 | 9.7 h | Makkī 11 / Madanī 3 |
| 7 | 50–66 | Ṭiwāl al-Mufaṣṣal and the Madanī cluster Qāf to al-Taḥrīm — 11 of these 17 are Madanī, community and law | 611 | 7.4 h | Makkī 6 / Madanī 11 |
| 8 | 67–89 | Awsāṭ al-Mufaṣṣal al-Mulk to al-Balad — short, Makkan, eschatological, one register throughout | 782 | 9.6 h | Makkī 22 / Madanī 1 |
| 9 | 90–114 | Qiṣār al-Mufaṣṣal al-Shams to al-Nās — the shortest, the most recited, the most memorised | 209 | 5.1 h | Makkī 21 / Madanī 3 |
Windows in the same wave cannot see each other, so put the vocabulary-setting ranges first. Wave 1 covers the remaining long sūrahs, the Ḥā Mīm family and the eschatological register — between them they settle most of the terms the later waves will need.
After the last wave, run one reconciliation pass: a single window reads the glossary and greps every settled term across all 114 readings. That is the only step that can catch what the per-sūrah gates cannot.
Set the model first — a prompt cannot do it. In each window run /model claude-opus-5 before pasting. There is nothing to gain from a cheaper tier here: the mechanical steps are three commands and cost almost no tokens, so a downgrade buys speed only on the readings, which is the one part no rebuild can regenerate.
Then paste this, with the numbers for that window filled in from the table above:
You are WINDOW 1 of 9 building the Qur'an surah pages. Your range is surahs 3-7 - 5 surahs, 867 ayat. No other window touches them. FIRST, before any reading: read 05-READINGS/GLOSSARY.md and hold to it. It is the controlled vocabulary for all nine windows. When you settle a term it does not carry, append a row. Never edit a settled row - put an objection under ## Disputed and leave it for Waleed. Then work ONE SURAH AT A TIME, in order, all five steps of the skill, and publish it before starting the next. A finished surah should be finished - do not batch the publishing to the end. WHERE TO SPEND THOUGHT. The agreed readings and the hadith picks are the entire job; everything else is three commands. Run --data, --build and --audit without deliberation. Think hard about: what the commentaries SHARE for this ayah, whether a term is already settled in the glossary, and whether the hadith picks carry a cross-tradition convergence. If a gate fails, fix the input - never the gate. WHEN THE RANGE IS DONE, report: surahs built, total ayat, every gate that fired and why, and every term you added to the glossary. Start now with /surah-purge 3
The skill carries the rest — the five steps, the consensus rules, the batch tooling for long sūrahs, and every gate. Do not restate it in the prompt; a longer prompt only competes with the skill.
